If you're passionate about both art and teaching, the B.S. Secondary Education-Art at Indiana University Southeast offers a powerful path to combine your interests into a meaningful career.
As the region's only art education program, this concentration prepares you to become a credentialed K–12 art teacher with a strong foundation in both artistic practice and educational theory.
The program integrates professional education coursework with immersive, hands-on learning in studio classrooms, equipping you to teach art in a way that’s both skillful and conceptually grounded.
You’ll explore a range of fine arts disciplines, including drawing, ceramics, painting, digital art, printmaking, graphic design, and art history, while gaining insight into how to build lesson plans, manage classrooms, and engage diverse learners through the visual arts.
By graduation, you’ll be equipped not only with the technical and conceptual skills of a practicing artist but also the pedagogical expertise needed to teach with confidence and purpose.
Art Education students benefit from hands-on instruction in professional studio facilities, where you’ll learn the same tools and techniques you’ll one day teach. From the pottery wheel to the printmaking press, you’ll gain firsthand experience that strengthens your skills and informs your teaching approach.
In addition to your studio work, you'll complete education-focused coursework and field experiences that prepare you for student teaching and state licensure. Our small class sizes and expert faculty ensure personalized guidance as you navigate your journey from art student to art educator.
